Counseling and Support

 

Counseling - Master's level therapists and interns provide counseling services to adult and child victims of emotional and physical abuse, rape and sexual assault and to survivors with co-occurring disorders (substance use and mental health disorders). Counseling services are offered to shelter residents and members of the community. We take serious precautions to protect your confidentiality. To learn more, read our Privacy Policy. Domestic Violence Orientation - educates on the cycle of violence and the characteristics of batterers, victims and abusive relationships. The class is held every Wednesday night from 5:00pm to 6:00pm (arrive at 4:30pm to fill out paperwork if this is your first time attending). It is open to the public and free of charge. Limited childcare is available; please call 343-3688 ext. 17  by 10 a.m. on the preceding Tuesday to reserve a spot.



RAP - A weekly support group for women survivors of domestic violence. Meets Wednesdays 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the Women's and Children's Alliance, 720 W Washington Street, and is free of charge. First time participants must attend Domestic Violence Orientation (4:30p.m. to 6 p.m.) before attending RAP. Limited childcare is available. Circle of Support is an 8-week, closed group for survivors of sexual assault. The group is held weekly on Wednesdays from 2 – 3:00pm at the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, 720 W. Washington, and is free of charge. Limited childcare is available. Please call 343-3688 ext. 17 by 10 a.m. on the preceding Tuesday to reserve a spot. Tentative future start dates are November 9th and February 4th. Please contact Paula at 343-3688 x 23 for screening and for additional information. 


For clients in our residential program, the following group sessions are offered:

  

Helping Women Recover - Facilitated by a Master's level clinician or intern. Offered weekly for residential clients who are receiving counseling and/or case management services at the WCA. Explores the impact of trauma on women, utilizing the Helping Women Recover curriculum (a best practice program).

Parenting Orientation
- Facilitated by a licensed clinician. Offered for residential clients who are receiving counseling and/or case management services at the WCA. It is a prerequisite for Parenting and Family Dynamics. Education on child development and nurturing philosophies are discussed.

Nurturing Families
- Facilitated by a licensed clinician. Offered twice a week for residential clients who are receiving counseling/case management services at the WCA. Prior to attending the first group, clients must attend Nurturing Families Orientation. Utilizes Nurturing Skills for Families curriculum (a best practice program).

Life Skills Group - Weekly education group facilitated by bachelor level case managers and professionals in the community for residential clients who are receiving counseling and/or case management services at the WCA. Topics are varied and include things such as budgeting, nutrition, resume and job interviewing skills and time management.
