What We Do
Statistics tell us that more than 1 in 3 women (35.6%) and more than 1 in 4 men (28.5%) in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. And, 1 in 3 adolescents in the United States is a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
These numbers are frightening and they mean that you know at least one person who will be a victim of domestic abuse in their lifetime. If not stopped, this abuse is cyclical and often moves from one generation to the next without pause. We believe that change starts with one person and we encourage everyone in our community to start the conversations with their family members, children, coworkers and friends. Let the change begin with you.
We Come to You
Through our outreach presentations, we work to educate the public about the characteristics of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and healthy relationships. We believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse in our community.
We tailor the presentation to your group and can focus on any one or combination of the following:
- Domestic Abuse
- Dating Abuse
- Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
- Sexual Assault
- WCA Services
- By-Stander Education
Call 208.343.3688, ext. 44 or email for more information.
Each month, we bring our outreach table to events including health fairs, community resource fairs, volunteer info nights, and conferences.
Let us know if you have an event you’d like us to come to, and we will bring materials targeted to your audience. Our outreach materials include:
- WCA Brochures
- Shoe cards
- Volunteer and Ambassador opportunities
- A detailed list of all WCA services
Tables are run by friendly, trained outreach volunteers and WCA staff members. If you’re interested in becoming an outreach volunteer, please attend a Tour and fill out a volunteer application. We’ll contact you to schedule a training session as positions become available.
