Bea BlackThe start of every new year gives us a good excuse to take a stab at living up to some of those resolutions we may have been thinking about – or even made to ourselves as the old year came to an end.   As I enter 2014, what I am thinking about is how quickly the time goes by and how many things I said I would do in 2013 that I still have not gotten to!  They really were not “resolutions,” but they were things I had on my list that I hoped to accomplish. The list includes things I want to accomplish personally as well as professionally to further the work we do here at the WCA. How to make time for getting these things done when life just happens and other things get in the way – well, that is the ongoing conundrum!  One of the things I am going to try to be more disciplined about is how I use my technology tools.  It is so easy to spend the entire day at the computer screen – when really, checking my e-mail two or three or even four times a day should suffice.  Limiting my computer time will free up more time for phone calls, in-person visits and outreach presentations. While we have made more outreach presentations this year than any other year, we still have a long way to go to raise awareness of the work we do and the issues caused by domestic abuse and sexual assault to the level needed to encourage more focus and attention on the issues. My hope for 2014 is that we can make further progress toward making our purple ribbon (symbolizing the effort to end domestic violence) as visible and recognizable as the pink one!
