GRANT SUPPORTS FINANCIAL LITERACY FOR DOMESTIC & SEXUAL ABUSE SURVIVORS

Allstate Foundation awards the Women’s and Children’s Alliance a grant for $10,000 to support the Treasure Valley Economic Action Program

Boise, ID – The Allstate Foundation has awarded the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) a grant for $10,000 to support the Treasure Valley Economic Action Program (TVEAP) that provides financial literacy education.

The WCA is the lead agency for TVEAP, which began in 2010 as a collaborative effort of six valley agencies. The curriculum is called Realizing Your Economic Action Plan, or REAP, which is taught by two Financial Literacy Educators employed through the WCA. More than 862 women have participated in the classes and 267 have graduated.

“[The curriculum] contains information that teaches women about safety, empowerment, economic abuse and other financial concepts such as budgeting, credit, banking and investing.  The curriculum encourages individual coaching sessions for the women that want to work on personal financial matters outside the group setting,” said Yazmin McNeal, Financial Literacy Educator.

“The Allstate Foundation is proud to partner with the Women’s and Children’s Alliance and help their efforts to support survivors of domestic violence,” said Frank Clouser, Allstate Corporate Relations Manager. “We are committed to using financial empowerment to end the cycle of violence because research shows that financial dependency is the strongest predictor of a survivor’s decision to remain, leave or return to an abusive relationship – even stronger than physical safety issues.”

“Allstate Insurance is more than a company that does business in Idaho – it’s part of the fabric that makes up our local community. Through the support of The Allstate Foundation, the Women’s & Children’s Alliance is able to provide our clients with financial literacy education that empowers them to achieve financial independence and economic self-determination. The Allstate Foundation is an important partner in meeting our mission of providing safety, healing and freedom to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault,” said Bev La Chance, M.Ed., Deputy Director for the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.
